Terry McLaurin Carted Off With Potentially Serious Knee Injury

Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin was carted to the locker room in the first quarter of the Monday night game against the San Francisco 49ers at Levi's Stadium after suffering an apparent knee injury away from the play. McLaurin went down on a third-and-9 play that ended with a sack of quarterback Jayden Daniels, and he buckled to the turf without contact. Washington trailed San Francisco 13-3 late in the first quarter when the injury happened.

His left leg was stabilized on the field before he was carted off, and several San Francisco players came over to offer encouragement as he left. McLaurin had caught his only target for 27 yards before leaving the game, a completion on the first Washington snap that helped set up a field goal.

No official diagnosis or timetable had been announced while the game continued, and the Commanders had not confirmed how much time McLaurin will miss. Early reports described the knee injury as potentially serious, and any extended absence would remove the top receiver from a Washington offense that entered the night with a 1-3-1 record.

The timing deepens the blow for Washington. McLaurin missed one game earlier this season with a hamstring injury and played through the issue last week against the New York Giants, catching 4 passes for 62 yards. He entered Monday night with 14 catches, 203 yards, 1 touchdown in 4 games this season, and Monday gave Daniels a rare chance to work with McLaurin and Stefon Diggs in the same game.

Without McLaurin, Washington leans harder on Diggs, who returned Monday after missing the Giants game, and on rookie Antonio Williams and Treylon Burks behind him. San Francisco entered the night unbeaten at 5-0, and the Commanders now face the rest of a difficult road game and a much larger question about their best receiver. Further updates from the team are expected as the game progresses and after it ends.
