Terry McLaurin Out for the Season With a Torn Patellar Tendon
Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin will miss the rest of the 2026 season after tearing the patellar tendon in his left knee. Head coach Dan Quinn confirmed the diagnosis on Tuesday. McLaurin will have surgery to repair the injury.
McLaurin was injured in the first quarter of the Monday night game against the San Francisco 49ers and was carted off with his left leg in an air cast. He had caught 1 pass for 27 yards before he left the game, and Washington ruled him out soon after the injury. San Francisco won the game 23-17, and an MRI on Tuesday confirmed the torn tendon.
The 31-year-old finishes the season with 15 catches for 230 yards and 1 touchdown in 5 games. He missed one game earlier this season with a hamstring injury. McLaurin is a two-time Pro Bowler and a team captain, and his absence removes the most established receiver from the Washington offense.
Washington enters its bye week with a 1-4-1 record and has to rebuild its passing plan without its top target. Quarterback Jayden Daniels will lean more on Stefon Diggs in that plan, with Antonio Williams, Treylon Burks, Dyami Brown and Luke McCaffrey in line for larger roles. The Commanders spent Monday night fearing the worst about the injury, and Tuesday brought the confirmation they did not want.
