The American League returns from Sunday’s off-day with two Division Series Game 2s on Monday, October 5. The White Sox and Rays hold 1–0 leads; Cleveland and the Yankees are trying to even their series before the venues change.

The National League has a travel day after Milwaukee’s walk-off win and Atlanta’s response in Los Angeles. Both NLDS matchups resume Tuesday. Away from the active playoff field, Seattle has issued medical updates and the Cubs are outlining their offseason priorities.

White Sox at Guardians: 5 p.m. ET

Chicago brings a 3–0 postseason record into Game 2 at Progressive Field after sweeping Houston in the Wild Card Series and defeating Cleveland 3–0 on Saturday. Munetaka Murakami’s two-run homer in the fourth inning supplied the first two runs of the Division Series opener.

Gavin Williams is Cleveland’s scheduled starter. The White Sox plan to open with left-hander Anthony Kay before turning to Sean Burke for bulk innings, according to MLB.com’s matchup preview.

The game is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET on TBS and truTV. A Cleveland win would send the series to Chicago tied; another White Sox victory would give Chicago a 2–0 advantage.

Yankees at Rays: 8 p.m. ET

Tampa Bay hosts Game 2 at Tropicana Field with a 1–0 series lead. Drew Rasmussen held New York to one hit across eight scoreless innings and struck out 10 in Saturday’s 1–0 win. Jonathan Aranda’s solo home run provided the game’s only run.

Cam Schlittler is scheduled to start for the Yankees opposite Tampa Bay’s Freddy Peralta. New York needs a win to bring the series back to even before Game 3 at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday.

First pitch is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on TBS and truTV. Tampa Bay is playing to extend its lead, while the visiting Yankees are the team facing the possibility of an 0–2 deficit.

Baz and Caballero lead the season’s pitch-clock violation totals

The Associated Press’ Monday report identifies Baltimore pitcher Shane Baz as the league leader with six pitch-clock violations, his second consecutive season at the top. He also had six while pitching for Tampa Bay in 2025.

Yankees hitter José Caballero led batters with four violations. The report says MLB considered his practice of delaying acknowledgement of the pitcher until just before the clock reached eight seconds a form of deception.

Cubs target pitching upgrades while Happ’s future remains open

The Cubs’ Wild Card exit has shifted attention to an offseason with several potential departures. The Associated Press reports that president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer expects a heavy emphasis on improving the pitching staff.

Ian Happ and Seiya Suzuki are set to enter free agency. MLB.com reports that retaining both is unlikely, but Hoyer said “everything is on the table” and planned to meet with Happ to discuss his situation. Happ’s return remains an open question in that reporting.
